How Accurate is My Pendulum

This is a question I get asked often. I will talk about how to determine the accuracy of your pendulum. You can also watch the video at the bottom….

When working with any pendulum, this is really a good idea to do this exercise. On a scale of 0% to 100%, you can determine the accuracy of your pendulum.

Before you jump in and test, make sure you have visited my post on How to Clear a Pendulum Before Using It, read the rest of this article, and/or watch the video at the end for extra tips. After you print the chart,  hold the pendulum over the black dot and ask: How Accurate is my Pendulum.

Testing how accurate your pendulum is, can tell you if something is off. You want the test to be 100%, however if it is below 70%, I would ask the pendulum to tell you your yes or no answer for the following:

• Does the pendulum need clearing or more clearing (If yes, you can get specific with the type of clearing – watch the video below for examples)
• Is my energy interfering with the test
• Do I need to clear my energy
• Do I need to do a grounding exercise (which I will cover in another lesson)

With these questions, we are pinpointing WHY the reading was 70% or below. You may have other questions that pop in your head (trust these). Go ahead and ask those questions, then after you have taken action to clear, redo the pendulum test to get a new accuracy reading and hopefully it is better.

How to Clear a Pendulum Before Using It

If you have bought or been gifted a pendulum, then it would be good to know how to clear a pendulum before using it.

There are many different ways to accomplish this. You can clear your pendulum by:

• using a sage smudge mist – spray the mist on a cloth, tissue or hanki, then wipe all parts of the pendulum, never spray directly on the pendulum
• using a sage smudge stick – gently blow the smoke on the crystal or allow the smoke to completely cover the pendulum
• using a crystal singing bowl,
• putting the pendulum outside for a cycle of 24 hours – so it receives the moon and suns energy (full moon is great).
• immersing in sea salt – some crystals can be immersed in sea salt for a 24 hour period of time (Caution – Not all crystals and gemstones can tolerate Salt – they may dissolve). Make sure yours can before using this method.
•  directing white light energy into the crystal – (this is a good one to practice)

If you are just starting out I would suggest sage smudge spray or a sage smudge stick. I have provided links to some of the ones I thought would be best.

How to Use a Pendulum to get Yes or No Answers

Before you use a pendulum you have bought or one that has been given to you, it’s a good idea to clear your pendulum of all energies absorbed by it, from others handling it. It is also important to cleanse it before each use. Read my article on How to Clear a Pendulum Before Using It. I have also included a video that is at the bottom of this article on how to use a pendulum.

Here’s a disclaimer of sorts….

Learning to get out of the way and let the pendulum do its work is part of the learning process. The results you get will reflect your stage of spiritual and mental development.

Use a pendulum with the intention of  the well-being of others or yourself and to get yes and no answers. It will not foretell the future, I highly suggest you not use it for egoistic reasons.  In reality you will have to learn to spiritually disconnect yourself from the pendulum’s answers. As with anything, your thoughts can influence the pendulum’s answers. This takes practice, however when you “get it” and learn to disconnect yourself from the answers, it is fun using a pendulum.

Your next step is to determine your Yes and No from the pendulum. Once cleared, blow your energies into the stone, by holding the pendulum in your hand and blowing into the stone. Then hold the pendulum by the top pivot, so that the heaviest end is at the bottom.

1) Say: Show me my YES. The pendulum will start swinging, so you will know when you ask a yes or no question, this is your YES answer. Then tell it to stop.

2) Then say: Show me my NO. Once again the pendulum will swing in a different direction, this is your NO.

3) I may be beneficial to ask: How will you swing if you don’t want to answer or if you can’t answer.

Now when you ask a yes or no question, you will know how YOUR pendulum will answer you.

Here’s a diagram of common directions for yes and no. ( Yes, I drew this by hand.) It could be any combinations of these. Mine is a diagonal for no and circle for yes. You can use this diagram or draw it out on paper for yourself. There is no right or wrong, your swing for yes and no may be totally different from anyone you know. That’s perfectly normal. You can print the diagram below or draw on a piece of parer if you feel a diagram like this would help you.

I suggest you practice, practice, practice, especially the part about disconnecting from the answers. Ask a question you already know the answer to. Always with an unbiased attitude and intentions. If you ask a question and say to yourself, say yeas, say yes…. Then this is not being unbiased and you will interfere with the connection and the answer… A correct answer will only come when you are unbiased on the outcome.

TIPS: When I am working with my pendulum asking questions or doing the test, I do not hold the pendulum directly in front of my body, I make sure it is away from my chakra points. I hold it to my side or turn my body away from the pendulum. For a newbie, I would not let anyone else touch or use my pendulum. Keep it put away, preferably in a cloth bag, not plastic as it can not breathe.

Once you have mastered the art of using your pendulum, you can use it in so many ways. You can hold your pendulum over objects to test them, if they are good for you or not. Remember to ask yes or no questions and disconnect from the answer.

Is this item good for me? Do I need this supplement? Is this water pure? ect… you get the jist.

More examples of items you may want to test: food, water, drinks, medications, gemstones, flower remedies, your chakras, the organs and systems in your body, the energy in your environment (does my ___ need clearing).

Before you take a course or join a group, you can ask if this ____  would be of my highest good to take/join at this time. It may or may not at the moment. You can always ask again later, as we are ever evolving and it may not be right for you in the moment, however later it may be a fit.

Have fun with it and practice. The more you connect with your pendulum, the better you will get at “getting yourself out of the way” and allowing the pendulum to work for you.

What is a Pendulum?

When I am with clients and I pull out one of my handcrafted pendulums, I often get asked – What is that and then when I tell them, it’s a pendulum, the next question: what is a pendulum …

After I explain what a pendulum is they normally have more questions like: Can I use a pendulum or How to use a pendulum … Where can I get a pendulum?

By definition from wikipedia, a pendulum is a weight suspended from a pivot so that it can swing freely. A pendulum is usually six to eight inches in length, having the weight on one end and a pivot on the other, that allows the item to freely swing.

The specific appearance of pendulums can be anything from a string to an elaborately designed chain with semiprecious gemstones. On the norm, most people are attracted to fancier pendulums. However, just as there is no limitation on what a pendulum can be made of, there is no certain definition of all the different ways one can use a pendulum.

What is a pendulum used for, in terms of spirituality?

It is said that a pendulum is an extension of the person who wears or uses it, and that its movement results from the energy meridians in the body or contact with your Higher Self or your Spirit Guides.

Pendulums can and have been used for a variety of purposes. They can be used for healing,  guidance, self-cleansing, determining if a Chakra or energy center is out of balance and some have been used (depending upon the stone the pendulum is made of) for spiritual protection.

Many use pendulums to answer their own personal questions, to determine if something is good for them or not and to get clarification. The belief is that when you ask a pendulum questions (and it moves to denote the answer) you are summoning your subconscious mind or your higher self through your body’s energy. However, the pendulum may be influenced both consciously and subconsciously, possibly making the responses inaccurate.

For instance if you “Ask your question” with a preconceived outcome or wishful thinking, however slight, those “thoughts” from you can be magnified making the use of the pendulum in that instance ineffective or pre-determined by your thoughts. In other words, you will get the answer you WANTED, not the answer that is true. This proves just how powerfull your thoughts are. One must take steps to prevent this by focusing on pure intention and get the preconceived notions out of the way. Insufficient questioning can result in senseless responses.
